The streaming juggernaut, Amazon, has steadily been trying to increase their reality television offerings on their site, and it looks like they’re looking towards Korea for inspiration. Kpop, as we all know, has been gaining attention worldwide lately, especially with the latest Billboard Music Awards win by super-popular boy group, BTS, and so it only makes sense for a show to pop up around the idea of looking for the next big Kpop star. We usually see shows like this in Korea, like “Kpop Star” and “Superstar K” and “Produce 101”, so it will be a first of its kind on any American network.

This docuseries on Amazon entitled, “K-pop : The Search for the Next K-pop Supserstar” sounds like a mash up of “Produce 101” and “America’s Next Top Model”, as conestants will be tested and groomed in various subjects like singing, dancing, acting and style. There will be a panel of judges and mentors to guide and evaluate the competitors as they make their way through the competition. It is open to Kpop hopefuls from around the world, but it sounds like towards the end of the competition, finalists will be sent to Korea to take intensive language immersion courses, so it would probably be a plus if you could speak a little Korean already!

The series will be executive produced by the same people who brought you “Hell’s Kitchen”, “American Ninja Warrior” and “American Idol”. Korean entertainment veteran (and CJ Entertainment’s own) Justin Lee will also be overseeing production, so it’s safe to say that this will be a competition series on a whole other level!
